Several years ago in the spring my sweet mom started planting a bunch of pumpkins in part of her garden. Over the summer they grow and eventually overtake a large bank of dirt. Not being one to be satisfied by just big smooth orange carving pumpkins, she planted several fun varieties with textures and bumps and colors. We’ve made sure to keep that going over the year. Today it was time to harvest.
Hunting for pumpkins is serious business. It takes a well-trained scout like Grandpa to find only the best.Carving pumpkins are great, but there are way more out there to pick from!Sometimes when you pick up a pumpkin, you run off with a worms house. Sunday was a really beautiful fall day. Great weather, great colors. Snow on Mt. Timpanogos while trees change color in the valley.
“Dad! I want some ice water! And the big iPad with a PAW Patrol train show!” Okay Elle, as you wish. I then took a 90 minute nap. When I woke up she was still there, and Emmett had joined her.
Elle discovered this basket today and immediately ordered me to fetch her some ice water and the big iPad.
At my recent trip to Dallas to attend EyeCon, after the final CE session on Sunday I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Dr. Askew, a sweet traveling Optometrist. We were talking to her about a personal website when I realized that she didn’t have an office for us to send a photographer to. So, I decided since she was looking fantastic already, I should just pull her aside right there in the conference hall and snap a few portraits for her that we can use in her website. This is just one of many great ones!
After a week or so of butt-cold weather, fall came back and is doing a great job redeeming itself. We had a nice 70ยบ afternoon to play outside in. We (by we, I mean the kids) raced, played in the grass, and did some swinging.
Elle, pulling up the grassCame out a bit blurry, but that face of happiness was too much to pass up.Elle is very much at home in the swing, and I finally snagged a photo of just how happy she can be
This past weekend I had the chance to go to Dallas (specifically Irving) to attend the TOA EyeCon and work on signing up new clients for my little business 460. It was a lot of fun, very succesful, and well worth it!
Our hotel was right alongside this canal setup that was really quite cool. Sadly I only had a chance to wander down around it in the dark on our first night there, while it was raining a little bit. But that’s alright, the pictures turned out pretty great!
Yeah, that’s a mouthful. One evening during our trip to Japan in April 2017 we went over to the Roppongi area of Tokyo to see the Tokyo Temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, just a few minutes walking from Hiro-o Subway station. Across the street is a fantastic park that we just happened to be taking a break in during the sunset. The colors that evening were incredible.
There are several areas in Tokyo where it’s hard to believe you’re actually in the middle of one of the most populous cities in the world. This park was one of them.
Three Years Old. Elle is such a sweetheart, and so smart! She can speak so well, knows lots of words and nuances of English. She loves her characters and her colors. Ever since Emmett’s birthday in August she’s been looking forward to her birthday, asking us about it all the time, telling us what presents she was going to get. For a long while it was going to be a pink drum, but later she changed it to a pink guitar.
We celebrated with a big family party tonight and served a proper BBQ meal with 3 kinds of meats, funeral potatoes, salad, carrots, and a lot of BBQ sauce. It was so good! This was my first attempt at brisket and I am quite happy with how it turned out. I will definitely be doing one again soon! Now that it’s been done, I’m not so scared. But, enough about smoking…
Birthday PortraitAlicia managed to snag the last Unicorn Blanket Cape at Costco. Quite the snag! Elle loves it.Along with her Unicorn Blanket came a little stuffed Unicorn. It’s her new best friend.Eleven hours on the smoker, 2 hours wrapped and resting, and this big black beauty became the main course for dinner. Daggum it was good. The brisket did not disappoint. Not one bit.Along with the brisket we had some pulled pork and smoked chickenShe got the cutest My Little Pony hat and gloves and socks. Elle wanted a new guitar so bad for her birthday. Glad we could deliverElle got her guitar, and she wore it all night. Here she is opening Candyland given to her by her cousin IsaacGrandma and Grandpa Allan were not in town for Emmett’s birthday, so tonight they brought his present as well. More LEGO’s. To say Emmett was excited is an understatement.Yeah, it’s tall. Six cakes tall! Elle loved the Peppa Pig topping on her cake
A tropical storm rolled in earlier this week that has been dumping buckets of rain over the past few days. It’s been so needed! Last night the temparature dropped a little bit, and that rain turned into a little hint of snow on the mountain tops.
