I’m tired of Winter
February 16, 2021I’m losing motivation. I’m just trudging through my days. I’m tired of the dull colors and minimal blue skies. My patience for winter is getting shorter every year.

I took the kids to Carterville Park tonight after work and a very nice sunset was unfolding. This is a stitched panorama from about 10 images shot at 50mm.
I like taking the less-popular roads to work. Even if it takes me a little bit longer I prefer moving slower than bursts of speed between stop lights and traffic. This morning it paid off a little with a pretty cool foggy frosty scene that we get a couple times a year.
We’re down in St. George for the weekend enjoying slightly warmer weather and a lot more sunshine.
The view was amazing, and this is just half of it. This panorama was too wide to really fit on a blog. The other half is shady and hazed out though, so you’re just gonna have to go to The Wedge yourself to see it all.
It’s 2020. COVID Thanksgiving was yesterday and it was great – just our family. At the end of the day I was staring down 3 more days of being in the house all day and that just wasn’t looking fun. So I decided we’d go for a day trip. Alicia had to work so it was just me and the littles. We packed up my GX470 and headed towards Central Utah.
After lunch we still had a good 90 minutes before our destination. About 45 minutes in we stopped at a park in Huntington and had a great time. It was warmer than Soldier Summit was, the sky was clear, no wind – a perfect day to play at an empty park.
Finally, we were on the home stretch to our destination – The Wedge, about 20 miles east of Castle Dale. Once you turn off the highway there’s a long dirt road you go down to get there. It’s well maintained, though, so it’s easy to bounce along at 45mph. Until you see a hill that looks fun to climb.
And now, after all that – we made it to The Wedge. But you’re not gonna see that just yet. I’ve got a couple panoramas I need to edit up and then you can see where we went. Unless you’re reading this a week or so after I post this and you saw the panorama before you saw this post since Blogs go back in time. Hello, time traveler.
Since Alicia and I both have jobs, we send our kids to our fantastic neighbors to play and learn during the day. Emily just loves going over and every morning is just so excited – she’s just so cute and so happy!
Technically, this is a pretty terrible photo. Not straight, random car in the background, not 100% in focus. Artistically it has some beautiful light going on – especially on her face. Emotionally it’s a 10/10.
It’s winter. Night comes too soon and it’s too cold to play outside. Usually we often take advantage of the indoor playground at University Mall… but thanks to COVID the playground is closed. Tonight I took the kids anyway to at least get out of the house and walk around a bit. Stupid COVID.
