A Day in the Life

The Half Wedge

November 28, 2020

The view was amazing, and this is just half of it. This panorama was too wide to really fit on a blog. The other half is shady and hazed out though, so you’re just gonna have to go to The Wedge yourself to see it all.

Black Friday

November 27, 2020

It’s 2020. COVID Thanksgiving was yesterday and it was great – just our family. At the end of the day I was staring down 3 more days of being in the house all day and that just wasn’t looking fun. So I decided we’d go for a day trip. Alicia had to work so it was just me and the littles. We packed up my GX470 and headed towards Central Utah.

First Stop – Pit Stop. This was near the summit of Spanish Fork Canyon, AKA Soldier Summit. It was kinda chilly but there was a train to check out and we couldn’t pass that up.
Stopped here for lunch, in Wellington. I just love how Emmett and Elle are such good friends.
See, Emily was there too.

After lunch we still had a good 90 minutes before our destination. About 45 minutes in we stopped at a park in Huntington and had a great time. It was warmer than Soldier Summit was, the sky was clear, no wind – a perfect day to play at an empty park.

Emmett called this his Parkour Course.
Emily wasn’t scared at all to climb up the steps and go down the slides.

Finally, we were on the home stretch to our destination – The Wedge, about 20 miles east of Castle Dale. Once you turn off the highway there’s a long dirt road you go down to get there. It’s well maintained, though, so it’s easy to bounce along at 45mph. Until you see a hill that looks fun to climb.

And now, after all that – we made it to The Wedge. But you’re not gonna see that just yet. I’ve got a couple panoramas I need to edit up and then you can see where we went. Unless you’re reading this a week or so after I post this and you saw the panorama before you saw this post since Blogs go back in time. Hello, time traveler.

Look! I was there too.

Morning Sunlight

November 25, 2020

Since Alicia and I both have jobs, we send our kids to our fantastic neighbors to play and learn during the day. Emily just loves going over and every morning is just so excited – she’s just so cute and so happy!

Technically, this is a pretty terrible photo. Not straight, random car in the background, not 100% in focus. Artistically it has some beautiful light going on – especially on her face. Emotionally it’s a 10/10.

Emily running while wearing a cute coat.

The Mall: COVID

November 23, 2020

It’s winter. Night comes too soon and it’s too cold to play outside. Usually we often take advantage of the indoor playground at University Mall… but thanks to COVID the playground is closed. Tonight I took the kids anyway to at least get out of the house and walk around a bit. Stupid COVID.

Such a fine, fine playground.
I tried getting them to smile.
We popped in to the Disney store for a look-around. Elle was enamored by what was on the TV, and I just had to take a picture. She’s so cute.
Outside they had a pretty great light display, so of course we had to go run around for a little bit – try and get more of those wiggles out.
Emmett wanted to stand on the lightpost.
And Elle wanted to pose on the lightpost.

Tibble Fork

November 21, 2020

Or, alternate title – A failed attempt to go off-road.

It’s winter. That means the mountains are typically snowy and muddy. But I still wanted to go take my new SUV to go play around. Unfortunately the Forest Service had different plans for me and closed up all the roads I wanted to go on. Which is probably good. I most likely would have gotten stuck. By myself. In the mountains. With 3 kids.

So instead we ended up walking around Tibble Fork for about 10 minutes until we all got too cold. The end.

Emily has reached that age where she copies. So cute.

Halloween! 2020

October 31, 2020

Not much commentary here besides I love how joyful my kids look. Okay, so the sun was pretty bright and this was a few hours before trick-or-treating but still. It’s kinda funny.

Oddly enough it took some serious pressuring to get Emmett out to trick or treat this year. I have no idea why. He just wanted to stay home and play. But eventually I convinced him to go out, and he had a blast.

Along the way we heard that a neighbor just a few houses down (the opposite direction we had started) was giving away full-size candy-bars. I told this to Emmett as we were winding down and he was just so excited.

We got to the house, he rang the doorball. They answered and said “Hello!” Emmett just looked up and in a robotic drawl said “FULL SIZE CANDY BARRR”. It was so dang funny.

Smiles. That’s a little better. And getting all three of them looking and smiling wasn’t gonna happen. This is the best we could get.

Elle is growing up too quickly. For her fifth birthday she got a cute little make-up tote and lots of fun make-up. She just loves to wear it and make herself extra cute if I do say so myself.

Dirt Yard

October 24, 2020

Our yard is still half torn up. We have plans to build a deck off the front of the house but we’re not ready to do that just yet, especially with materials being about 40% more than usual. So, we have a nice dirt and rock pile. Which will become a sloppy mud hole in the winter time. That doesn’t stop Emmett from having a heckuva time with his cars and trucks though. And I’m okay with that.

Emmett and the Y

This afternoon at Elle’s soccer game we were sitting in the shade and the grass was providing a lovely warm reflection. I couldn’t say no to the light. Shot with the Rokinon 85mm.
