Smugmug is a fantastic photo and video hosting website that I've been happy to be a member of for about a year now. Since joining I've also become skilled at customizing galleries and websites for other Smugmug users. Smugmug offers unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth, the best photo e-commerce solution online as well as the best printing and sharing you can find anywhere.

One of my favorite features about this website is every graphic, gradient and font (except screenshots) is created and managed with CSS; this enables a much faster load time and less server usage.

Q & A

Do you work in a Windows environment?
No. My two main productivity tools (outside Photoshop) are Coda & CSS Edit, which are both only available for Mac OS X. If I were to work on a Windows based computer my productivity would be cut in half, and my sanity would quickly diminish. And no, there are no comparable programs for Windows that match Coda and CSS Edit, most specifically CSS Edit. I've looked for others who are envious of that program but tied down to Windows. Also, for the developer on a budget, the combined cost of <$150 for two amazing applications can't be beat.
How comfortable are you with JQuery?
On a scale from about 1-10, I'm at about a 7. I have a good understanding of how it works but am still trying to learn all the extra goodies that Javascript and JQuery can offer.
Are you available for contract work?
Yes I am. I am currently a freelance, independent, working for myself kind of a web guy. Right now I'm balancing a few short-term and long-term projects but would love to add you to my list of happy clients. Please send me an email to discuss rates and availability.
What are your rates; do you do trades?
I offer competitive rates that are affordable for you and give value to my product. I do accept trades, and right now would love to find someone who has some extra skymiles good for international travel that we can trade for (2 people). I'm also interested in trading for other services as well, just shoot me an email.
Do you use tables at all in your coding?
Nope, not unless there is no other possible way (and I haven't hit that yet). I'm a firm believer in the concept of content here (html) & structure there (css) — by throwing tables into the html you're limiting what you're able to do with css, and I don't like to do that. CSS is incredibly powerful for layout design and is how current, hip, trendy, and on-the-ball web developers (like me!) build their sites.
How long have you been in web design?
I first started web design over 7 years ago with my own website, but the first year or two were very amateurish at best. My first job was working for a website sweat-shop in Provo, Utah where I spent a year in the trenches getting very familiar with Photoshop. I then switched jobs over to Main 10 and learned how to code valid HTML and really jumped into CSS. Since then I've taken on a serious study of staying current on web-technologies and pride myself in knowing what's new. While I only have 4-6 sites featured in my portfolio on here at any given time, rest assured the number of sites I've built is much, much more.
How comfortable are you with HTML5 & CSS3
Actually, if you didn't notice, this site is built in HTML5 and uses CSS3 syntax as well. As HTML5 is still a developing technology, so are my skills with it. When it comes to CSS3, I love to take advantage of the powerful tools that both Webkit (Safari, Chrome, Mobile) and Gecko (Firefox) are now including in their current versions; I think it's just rad. I employ the use of CSS3 in every site that I build now. I use the awesome HTML5 Biolerplate as a starting foundation for all my websites, and take advantage of the various tools available to add as much modern cool stuff to Internet Explorer as well.
Are you comfortable building sites in Wordpress?
Yes! I think Wordpress is fantastic, especially for clients who need to be able to add new pages on their own, and hopefully need a blog to keep up with some good SEO practices. I build all my Wordpress themes from a blank slate (Starkers, by the awesome Elliot Jay Stocks) so everything is custom coded. (In other words, I don't buy some $30 template and modify it giving you a franken-site). As with my non-Wordpress sites, I build with an HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery foundation to make sure your site is current with web technologies and setup to function correctly for years to come.
Do you do iOS/Android apps?
Not yet, but I'm getting there. If you have a project in mind I'd love to be the designer for it as long as you have someone else to actually build it. That said, I do have my own iOS app in the works and will be starting with that soon (I hope) and learning how to build it myself (so, it might take awhile). I'll have some of the designs showing up on Dribbble in the near future.
What's the best movie series ever?
Back to the Future. But, don't forget to add Band of Brothers as the best TV Mini-series.
Can I ask you another question?
Yes, go right ahead. Just send me an email to
